ok, i just have to say that i find it utterly despicable that at 10:20 this morning when ben bernanke, the chairman of the FED, was giving televised testimony painting a bleak picture of the US economy george w. bush found it necessary to go live on tv and emphasize a sound US economy.
obviously the president knocked the chairman of the FED off the airwaves.
lame. |

Which is the right religion for you? (new version) created with QuizFarm.com |
| You scored as Agnosticism You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in
God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics do not know or claim to know whether or
not God exists, but could admit that someone else might know. An intellectually honest agnostic would have to take that
position, as he has no more evidence of the impossibility of knowing God than he has of the existence of God.
Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence is not proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion;
however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

thanks for the nudge, lemmings.
i'll start with the post i thought i posted eight weeks ago today. it seems i didn't. but lucky me, livejournal saved it as a draft.
"cullen grey was born at home at 3:57am after a 3.5 hour labor. 8lbs 2oz. 20in. and perfect. i need sleep."
now that that's out of the way, the last eight weeks(in which i have not found that sleep)...
so for two days after cullen's birth our days were pretty peaceful. then, slowly, demon spawn child made his appearance. screaming for hours. bailey set us up. she cried for ten minutes a day. tops. of course, that's my recollection. i worked sixty hours a week, and then worked from home after hours after she was born. in fact my first week as a "stay at home dad" i worked 35 hours from home. so i guess my memory may be skewed.
he seemed to peak out around six weeks and has steadily been getting more manageable. but he still has me scared to death about andi going back to work. we still have four weeks, and i know he will certainly be a different baby then, but damn if i'm not really scared. how do i handle two? i remember having to leave my cart, half full, at the grocery store and go home because bailey was "unhappy" once. she was probably four months old. what are the chances they will both be agreeable at the same time? when i need them to be. putting my money on pretty unlikely.
i had a real tough time with cullen at first. i think a lot of it was the comparison. here i am, so in love with this little two and a half year old with so much personality, that it was difficult to attach myself to the eating pooping screaming lump. but, over the last couple of weeks, i've started to like him. the screaming is more manageable. little bits of payoff in the form of upturned lips. and more recently, the sound of an almost laugh. that's right, cullen, you won't survive this family unless you learn to laugh. and shit. catching my wife or myself saying "the kids," i guess the time has come to begin retrieving the morning paper from the front yard, bleary-eyed and underwear-clad. or cursing the neighborhood kids for making noise past 6pm. *note to self - sign up to receive morning paper*
oh, and all of the sudden, it seems 7am - 11am is super fun happy four hour nap time. what? i want a four hour morning nap.
lunch yesterday was craptacular. and a preview of things to come, i'm sure. we tried chili's. two screaming kids, andi left with cullen after two bites. luckily we had two cars. cullen is most certainly happy on moms shoulders, not so certainly on mine. bailey is certainly only happy when mom can pay full attention to her. oh, and she was unbelievably hungry. it was the perfect shitstorm of casual dining.
all made up for today by the appearance of willstronghold and thecranewife. i'm sad for them that their expedition has come to an end, but so happy to get to see them. serious congrats to you two.
all for now, see you in another eight weeks.

That sweet little baby has turned into a sweet little girl, and believe me, there are days when I want to glue a bucket to her head just to muffle the whining, and then position her so that she'll walk blindly into a wall, but on days like today, I understand that she is and always will be the best thing that has ever happened to me. |

in an api meeting this morning. oak hill library. bailey sitting on my lap, when i notice a wet, warm spot on my pants. off to the bathroom to change her. begin taking her pants off when a man exits a stall. as i always do, i pay close attention to him, without looking like i am paying any attention to him. this time is different. he is paying attention to us. i turn to see him staring at my daughter on the changing table. i can't really believe it. with sarcasm and wrath that he fails to detect, i ask him if he wants to watch. he steps forward and says, "can i?" as if it wasn't obvious, i step forward toward him as i bark, "no." i threaten to immediately notify library staff. he backs up, washes his hands and mumbles inaudibly. this time with more venom than wrath, and no sarcasm, i tell him i'll wait to change her until he leaves. longest witnessed hand washing of my life. he eventually begins to pull small pieces of paper towel from the dispenser to prolong his stay in the restroom. prompting the response from me, "if you really want to see me completely snap on you, keep taking you sweet time getting out of here." he mumbles again and walks out. staff notified. incident report filed. he apparently lives in a group home. they are usually only there on wednesdays. lucky us, they made an appearance on thursday. library staff speaks with the off-site manager that accompanied the residents to the library. manager claims the resident just likes to look at children. not really the fucking impression i received. fighting the urge to feel like i missed an opportunity to justifiably beat the ever-loving piss out of someone. keeping my eyes open for you, perv. |

CHILD KIDNAPPED.
Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for a 5-year-old boy who they said was kidnapped from his home in the 11800 block Shropshire Boulevard in Northeast Austin.
Police said Adrian Jaimes was abducted about 7:45 a.m. by three men in their late teens driving a grey Volkswagen Jetta with dark tinted windows. They left eastbound on Shropshire.
Police spokesman Joe Munoz said that at 7:40 a.m., the boy's older sister went outside to start the family's Jeep Cherokee. Moments later, the boy came outside with his mother and got in the car. Munoz said his mother was in the driver's seat, his sister in the front passenger seat, and the boy was in the back seat.
Police say the men then pulled up in the Jetta. Munoz said one of the suspects stayed in the car and two others got out, one of whom opened the door to the Jeep and pulled the boy out.
Munoz said the boy struggled to get away and that the mother ran after the Jetta, but was unable to stop the car or open its locked doors.
Munoz said police think the child is in imminent danger. "We're looking at every lead we are getting," he said. "We are going to look at every angle we come up with." Police said they don't believe the family knew the suspects.
**ETA: the kid was found unharmed, news conference to come, weird circumstances. |
